Dr. Mike Reed, one of the founding members of Associated Psychiatrists of Nashville (APON), has provided psychiatric care to the central Tennessee and southern Kentucky community since 1989. Dr. Reed provides a holistic approach to mental health care believing that a person’s overall health, nutritional status, and psychological well being are key components of a healthy mind.
Dr. Mike Reed provides his patients with an array of services that often go beyond the scope of typical psychiatric care. For example, Dr. Reed analyze patients’ DNA in order to detect polymorphisms in the gene methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Studies have shown that polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene are linked to psychiatric problems as well as other common medical conditions.
Psychotherapy is key to the care that Dr. Reed provides his patients. Unlike more than 80% of psychiatrists, Mike Reed does not ask his patients to see other clinicians to receive psychotherapy as he himself is well trained and experienced in providing that aspect of care. Even so, he still welcomes anyone who is already in treatment with another psychotherapist as he can add a dimension to the treatment that is likely unique and synergistic.
Depression, anxiety, insomnia, and many psychiatric problems are due to chronic inflammation of the brain, a fact most doctors do not know yet. He is on top of this cutting edge of psychiatry and integrates it into the assessment and treatment of all his patients. Many patients are surprised to find that with a healthy brain that other inflammatory based illnesses they might suffer from like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, gastrointestinal problems, and a myriad of other medical ailments markedly improve. Also, the chance of one getting dementia drops sharply when the psychiatric problems are laid to rest.
Tens of thousands of hours of clinical experience have provided Dr. Mike Reed with wisdom useful for untangling complexities of all sorts. He welcomes yours.
